Serena Marie, RD, shares with us how to select the best chocolate so you can reap the benefits of this highly sought-after food. She also goes in to why certain dark chocolate does not give us the health benefits we think we are getting with dark chocolate, which is supposedly good for us. Serena’s tips for selecting the right chocolate are:
Do not select chocolate that has been processed with alkali
Do not select chocolate that has been Dutch processed
Look where the calories are coming from in the chocolate – ideally the carbs found are 15 g or less and fiber around 5–7 g. The key is to make sure that the majority of the calories are coming from fat and not sugar.
Serena recommends Alter Eco Dark Blackout Organic Chocolate, 2.82 oz bar, Navitas Naturals Organic Raw Cacao Powder, 16-oz. Pouches (Count of 2), and Taza Organic Bolivian Dark Drinking Chocolate,
