237: Failure and Resilience with Neil Pasricha

It’s easy to look at someone’s successes and think up stories about how that person could be so prosperous. You might think that they have never experienced tough times, or if they have, that those times were short-lived.

The New York Times best-selling author of the Book of Awesome series, Neil Pasricha, discusses his Audible® Originals book (and also our January 2019 Book of the Month), How to Get Back Up: A Memoir of Failure & Resilience. He shares deeply personal topics that take the listener through many of the failures he experienced on his way to becoming a best-selling author. Here are Serena’s tips to sweeten those meals and treats!

  1. Use whole fruit, such as pureed bananas and unsweetened applesauce, to sweeten recipes in place of honey or syrup. Remember, while fruit does contain carbs, it also contains fiber, vitamins, and minerals.

  2. Skip the man-made artificial sweeteners, and use 100 percent plant-derived stevia or monk fruit instead. Man-made, calorie-free sweeteners are associated with “blooms” of bad bacteria called proteobacteria, which may cause liver damage or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) flare-ups.
