69: Dimity McDowell, Part 2

Dimity McDowell, of Another Mother Runner, and I complete Part 2 of our raw conversation around depression. We discuss:

  • The self care practices we utilize to take care of ourselves

  • What the word strive means to Dimity

  • How and when to ask for help

  • The routine that is working for me right now

  • How to have a “team” around you to help

  • What Dimity will do if another very very tough time happens

  • Dimity’s recommendation for me after my two fall marathons

What our conversation reminds me of is being understanding and non judgmental as at any given time, everyone is dealing with something that is very challenging. Dimity makes a great point about routines and rhythms and being afraid.

Our listener of the week is Dr. Ben Forman, Executive Director of Teens Run DC. The tagline for Teens Run DC is, We Run This City! Dr. Forman, a psychologist has created a program that matches teens with mentors to achieve running and life goals. In addition, they have an after-school program that includes social emotional and fitness sessions.

Our friend, and go to Real Food Dietitian, Serena Marie, RD, and I talk about a very challenging time that Serena just went through and how changed her eating and exercise plan to get through the tough times. Serena gives a lot of inspiration of how to take care of yourself when things are not going according to plan.
