141: How to Make Running a Lifestyle with High School Running Coach Chris Ramsey

It’s a small world after all. Chris Ramsey, my grade school teacher and grade school running coach, has coached fourteen state championship teams for girls high school cross country and track and field. On top of that, he has four kids, eight grandchildren, and his daughter, Serena Ramsey Burla, finished eighth at the US Olympics Women Time Trials for the Marathon in February—without part of her hamstring.

Hear how mindset, low mileage, and belief in one’s self are the keys to fulfillment and living a running lifestyle. You’ll also get to hear my mom ask Mr. Ramsey (it’s hard to call him Chris, as I have always known him as Mr. Ramsey) a few questions and share what her active lifestyle looks like. It may surprise you!

We get so many questions about carb requirements for men and women, so we decided to “rerun” Serena’s recommendations from Episode 93.

Serena’s grateful that she took a week of vacation (hence why there was an encore episode of carb requirements), and I’m grateful that I could reminisce about running with my grade school teacher. It felt surreal to be sitting in my parents’ living room next to my grade school teacher and coach and to hear all of the amazing things he has done for girls’ self esteem. I’m also grateful to have the opportunity to “tag-team interview” a beloved teacher of mine with my mom. Life can be surreal at times. :-)
